What a gwaan Ina Kingston – We going to Trench Town!
Kingston has been called a city of ‘ concrete brashness ‘ . In this exciting three hour tour we introduce you to some of the pulse of Jamaica’s urban culture : dynamic, chaotic and vibrant .
Kingston was one of 47 new locales added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Creative Cities Network in December 2015. Our city’s designation was for music, one of the seven creative categories recognised.
This year it is therefore most fitting that we visit Trench Town, and learn something of the history of the emergence of reggae musicians like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer and the younger musicians who continue in their illustrious tradition. Trench Town Cultural Yard was the first inner city location to be declared a protected National Heritage on May 10, 2007.
